The sweatshop lost another member, this week. Unlike the guy who tried to kill himself in full view of the co-workers, the rumour is she just .. snapped. Not in an expressive way, but I think we can suggest there's been some compromise in behaviour. She's been placed on immediate vacation, and once the time's run out on that, she's going onto long-term disability. She's caught a plane home. She's left the work group, the company, the hemisphere. She's not coming back.
It's the stress. More work, ever more complex and deeper procedures, kneejerk policies and hall monitors for HR. It's a never-ending slog, and I'm assuming right now that that's what got to her. She's been in a 4-person group that's 20% under its bare, bare minimum staffing. They tried to get that fifth, but the management denied the request; they've been falling behind ever since. Now it'll be worse, and I'm sure she stayed too long due to concern for her group-mates.
There were no signs of this stress -- nothing that stood out, anyway. Yeah, I'm sure there were days of less coping than others, and I really can't be my expressive self without expecting that others will be the same, but I admit I'm surprised she was next and not someone else. I wonder who's next.
