The cable company is riding the "digital antenna" wave and using it to force us all into digital, encrypted cable because it sounds the same and, hey, they have an exploitable opportunity. I have a definite problem with being forced into less choice, potentially more cost, but we're dealing with it. I hate being pushed into things, and it makes it easy for me to see the drawbacks and risks, and the biggest negative to the idea is the fact we don't get to choose to do it. If your new fancy whiziwig is so much better than what we have now, then present the differences and let me choose; don't force me. I think I need to shut up about that, though.
In this case, the cable company offers one overpriced package with 12 usable analog cable channels and X more we can't use with the TiVo. We don't watch those 12 channels; who does? So we're getting a digital box and can't use the TiVo any more, really -- really we can, but really, really, we can't. And since we don't use the TiVo any more, and it's gotta get gone, the box we (just) got to switch between that and the VCR isn't required either. It's a little $20 jobby from the Shack.Let me know you need any of those and we'll work a price you'll like.
